Implant Dentistry

Dental Implants

It is surprising and frustrating to see patients who have suffered in silence with missing teeth, large gaps or loose and uncomfortable dentures. Missing teeth can have a very debilitating effect on patients every day life. They start to avoid social situations, cannot eat the foods they enjoy, and can suffer pain, embarrassment and discomfort.

We often find that dental implants can change a patient’s life.

In terms of modern, contemporary dentistry, dental Implants are by far the treatment of choice for replacing missing teeth. The two main reasons for this are:

  1. Implants restore teeth independently from each other, which means that we do not need to involve your natural teeth in the final restoration.
  2. Present studies show that once an implant has successfully integrated and with the correct maintenance, it can last a lifetime.

This means that dental implants are a long-term cost effective investment in your dental health.

A dental Implant is a small titanium rod; almost the size of your baby fingernail, the rod is placed into your jawbone via a minor surgical procedure and acts as a replacement tooth root. Once your new ‘root’ is inserted, it is left alone from a period of between 3-6 months to fuse to your own bone and become ‘part of you’ (this process is known as Osseo-integration). Once the fusion has taken, we begin the final stages to construct and place the crown (your new tooth) on top of the Implant.

Implants can be used to replace multiple missing teeth and large gaps. This is often the most rewarding aspect of Implant dentistry as Implants prove to be extremely successful in dealing with this situation.

Implants can be used in the same way as teeth in replacing multiple missing teeth, i.e. it is not necessary to have an implant per tooth, indeed this is generally not a good idea as function and appearance is better served by replacing some teeth as ‘ bridged teeth’ supported by implants which reduces cost and complexity as well as producing a better biological result in most cases.

Often, we are able to give patients permanent fixed teeth where they have originally had dentures or very large gaps; this can be truly life changing dentistry for some patients.

Implants can also be used to secure your dentures in place. A bar or press -stud attachment is fitted both to the Implants and your denture to increase the stability and function. Very often, in the upper jaw we are able to leave your palate completely free! Using denture stabilisation on Implants will stop dentures floating around in your mouth and make them much more comfortable.

Most patients are suitable for dental implants, but we assess every patient as an individual at their first consultation and this will include an in-depth examination, x-rays, photographs, medical history and lifestyle discussions.

If you answer ‘yes’ to any of the following questions, dental implants could be suitable for you:

Please don’t suffer in silence; dental implants are a simple, long lasting and cost effective solution to missing teeth. Why not give us a call to find out more?

We offer Finance options in all of our practices. So for as little of £150 per month you could be walking away with a beautiful new smile, the only thing you will be losing is you denture.

nobel-biocareAll-on-4 – the efficient treatment concept with immediate loading

The All-on-4 treatment concept was developed to provide edentulous patients with an efficient and effective restoration using only four implants to support an immediately loaded full-arch prosthesis.

What is it?

If you have no teeth or your last teeth need extracting, instead of dentures, you can now have the ALL ON 4’s procedure to replace your teeth.

allon4What does it involve?

You will have a consultation where the dentist will assess your suitability for the procedure. This will involve an x-ray and impressions. You will have 4 implants placed in your jaw with temporary teeth fixed in-between immediately afterwards. 6 months after the implants have healed the temporary teeth will be replaced with permanent false teeth. This means they cannot be removed. They are a permanent fixture in your mouth.

How long does the procedure take?

The treatment in the chair will last for 6 hours.

How long does the whole process take?

6 months approximately.

implant-illustration-300x234Is it painful?

No. You will be numb for the entire procedure. You may be sore for up to a week after the surgery.

All-on-4 implants are a permanent set of teeth that look and feel like natural teeth.

They are permanent (you do not take them out) and are brushed and cleaned like natural teeth.

Can I have All on 4’s?

The ideal candidate for the All-on-4 dental implant procedure, is someone who is currently wearing dentures or who will need dentures in the future. Age doesn’t matter.

Will my results look natural?

The All-on-4 dental implant technique gives you permanent teeth that look, feel and function just like real teeth.

What if I just need implants on my bottom arch?

All-on-4 implants can be placed on just the upper or lower arch. Your dentist will evaluate your circumstance and if he or she feels you might eventually need replacement teeth on both the upper and lower arches, he or she might suggest performing the procedure on both arches at the same time.

Are there any additional costs/fees to expect?

Before any appointments made your dentists will go through all the costs involved as well as the time scale involved and the full process.
