What Are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers reduce the effect of lines and wrinkles:
- on and around your lips
- between your eyebrows
- on your forehead
- around your eyes (‘crows’ feet’)
- when you smile (‘nasolabial lines’)
- on your cheeks
This is a popular treatment because the results are immediate: you will leave your appointment with fewer noticeable wrinkles and rejuvenated skin. The length of time that this effect will last depends on a number of factors including where on your face the filler is used, the type of filler (we have various products available and can advise you on the best type for your skin), and the type of skin you have. We use both Juvederm Ultra Range, which typically lasts 9-12 months and Juvederm Vycross Range, which typically lasts 12-18 months.
Following a dermal filler you should expect some temporary redness or minor swelling, which will quickly subside.
Dermal fillers will not transform you into looking 20 years younger than you really are – our careful use of this technique will reduce the effects of aging, making you look less tired or careworn and give you a boost of confidence.
How Do Dermal Fillers Work?
Dermal fillers are carefully injected in just the right amount where needed to naturally smooth away wrinkles and give you a younger-looking, fresher appearance. Local anaesthetic may be applied to make this procedure painless. We use the Juvederm range, which is entirely safe and has been used for many years throughout the developed world; it is made of hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally-occurring substance within your body that hydrates and adds volume to skin. As it is a natural (rather than synthetic) substance, allergy tests are not necessary.
Will Dermal Fillers Work For Me?
Dermal fillers are usually suitable for most patients. We will be able to advise you about how effective dermal fillers will be for you when you come for a consultation – if dermal fillers are not suitable or will not achieve the results you are looking for then we can advise you of other products or treatments that will be more appropriate.
How Long Do Dermal Fillers Take?
You will need two appointments: the first will be a consultation to discuss your treatment, what you hope to achieve and which products will best suit your needs; the second will be when your treatment is carried out. You should allow a couple of days for any swelling or tenderness to subside following your treatment.
