It can be difficult to know what to do when you have a dental emergency. It’s common for patients to minimise the issue and hope that it goes away, but the issue won’t go away without dental treatment, and it could even get much worse. This is why we offer same-day dental appointments to help support patients who are struggling with unexpected dental problems. These appointments are available to book through our reception team, and you don’t have to be registered as a patient to make the most of this service.

Appointments are available on a first-come, first served basis, so we encourage you to get in touch first thing in the morning to secure your place. If your usual dentist cannot accommodate you, or if you aren’t registered with a dental practice, we can help. Please note that some dental emergencies are actually life threatening medical emergencies, and you should therefore visit A&E or call 999. This would include any case of severe swelling that makes it difficult to swallow or breathe, or severe and uncontrolled bleeding.

An emergency dental appointment is a little bit different to a routine checkup, as we will only focus on the problem that has prompted you to get in touch. Any other issues can be dealt with during a follow-up appointment. It’s important to arrive on time for your appointment or you may miss your spot and be asked to reschedule. We’ll start with an examination of your teeth and gums and may take X-rays to get a better understanding of what is causing your discomfort. We’ll then present your diagnosis and treatment plan, which may be possible to complete on the same day if treatment is simple. Otherwise, you’ll be asked to book a follow-up appointment. We’ll keep you informed of the associated costs for treatment so there are no unexpected surprises. If you aren’t registered with a dentist at the time of your appointment, we’ll also invite you to sign up so that we can manage your aftercare.
