Introduction to Veneers
Veneers are simply thin shells of porcelain that fit over the front of your teeth to change the appearance of your smile. We typically focus on the top front teeth that are visible when you smile for maximum impact. With good care, veneers will typically last for around 10-12 years, with some patients enjoying them for up to 15 years. The treatment takes place in multiple stages and is usually completed in a few weeks. First, we remove a small layer of enamel and then take impressions of your teeth. These are used to create your porcelain veneers in an external lab. When the veneers arrive, we can fix them in place with dental cement, and your treatment is complete.

Veneer Materials Explained
The most popular type of veneer has always been porcelain veneers, but this is gradually being replaced by a new material called composite resin. This is a soft and pliable material that is applied directly to the teeth and then cured. This makes it far more cost effective than porcelain, as we don’t need to send impressions to a lab to create the dental apparatus. The main differences are in the longevity of the materials. While porcelain veneers could last for up to 15 years, composite veneers will start to wear down after around 5 years. There are also differences in appearance, as porcelain tends to look more natural, while composite resin can appear slightly opaque.
