A dental implant is simply a small titanium screw that we place into the jaw bone. This creates a strong anchor support for a crown, bridge or full arch restoration. We start by creating a small pocket in the jaw bone and inserting the implant. This is left to heal and bond with the bone. This is a process known as osseointegration. Once sufficiently healed, we can attach a healing abutment to the top of the implant. This is the first part to sit above the gum line and will help to create a natural finish. Finally, we can attach a crown or bridge, and with multiple implants we can even attach a full arch.

With this treatment plan, patients don’t have to wait long stretches between appointments. We can place a load-bearing implant on the same day. We achieve this by using longer implants placed at an angle. This approach means that the implants will support a temporary denture immediately, and you can wear this while the implants heal. This avoids the need to wear traditional dentures as you wait for the implants to heal.
