Introduction to Composite Bonding

Composite bonding is a fairly new dental treatment that is fast becoming one of our most in demand procedures. It is a cosmetic procedure to help conceal any imperfections in your smile, allowing you to tackle things like gaps, chips, misaligned teeth, asymmetry, thinning enamel and dental staining. It uses the same composite resin used for white fillings, but we apply this to the front of the teeth and shape it as required. It is then set with a UV light and then polished to achieve a stunning finish. Small changes to your smile can have a dramatic impact on how you look, which can leave you beaming with confidence.

Benefits of Composite Bonding

Composite bonding is an alternative to treatments like veneers and crowns. Unlike these multi-step treatments, composite bonding is completed in just one visit, so you could achieve a dramatic smile makeover in your lunchbreak. The treatment is also highly cost effective, as the cost of the materials is much lower, and no third-party lab is required to create your restoration. Your dentist can design your smile in real time ensuring that the finished results are perfectly balanced with your other teeth and your facial features. The composite resin is designed to wear down gradually after around 5 years, which gives you time to decide if you would like to renew the treatment, or opt for something more permanent like veneers.

Differences Between Composite Bonding And Composite Veneers

When we talk about composite bonding, we typically mean a single tooth. It’s also possible to achieve a more dramatic makeover with a treatment known as composite veneers. This is when the resin material is applied to multiple teeth, either individually or using a custom designed mould. Covering all of the front teeth that are visible when you smile allows us to design your smile to be perfectly aligned and free from imperfections. Like composite bonding, composite veneers will last for around 5 years before they start to wear down. This is a highly cost-effective alternative to treatments such as porcelain veneers, which can be more expensive in comparison.
