The treatment is completed in just one visit, with minimal preparation of the underlying tooth. We start by lightly etching the surface of the tooth and then apply a colour-matched resin. This is shaped as required before we cure it with UV light. Once the material is hardened, we can shape and polish the tooth to perfection. It’s highly effective for tackling issues like misaligned teeth, discolouration, small gaps, chips, cracks, thinning enamel and peg-like teeth. The treatment is comparable to more intensive restorations like crowns and veneers.

When we refer to composite bonding, we are usually talking about treatment on a single tooth or area. It’s also possible to have this treatment on the top front teeth that are visible when you smile, which replicates the results of porcelain veneers. We can achieve this by working on each tooth individually, or by using a resin injection mould. The main difference is the material used, which tends to look slightly more opaque than porcelain veneers. Composite veneers will also need to be replaced after around 5 years, while porcelain restorations can last for around 12-15 years.
