What Are Veneers?

Our porcelain veneers are wafer-thin shells that fit comfortably and securely over the surface of your teeth to create the appearance of straighter, whiter teeth. These are ideal for correcting minor imperfections such as slight crookedness, excessive discolouration or small gaps between your teeth. You can think of them as being like false fingernails that slot over your original nails to give them a flawless appearance, except that veneers are permanently bonded to your teeth and can stay in position for many years with good oral care.

How Do Veneers Work?

To fit veneers, your dentist will need to take impressions of your existing teeth so that the veneers can be bonded firmly and securely in place. It may be necessary to gently remove the outer layer of the enamel on your teeth before bonding the veneers in place, so that the veneers can sit flush against your natural teeth. The veneers will be carefully colour-matched to your natural teeth so that they will look entirely natural when fitted. Some of our patients opt for a teeth-whitening treatment prior to their veneers being made, so that the veneers and teeth are all a perfectly natural shade of white.

Will Veneers Work For Me?

If you have minor imperfections in the appearance of your teeth, such as a chip, discolouration or small gap, a veneer may be a suitable treatment for you. Veneers are quick and a relatively cost-effective treatment for cosmetic imperfections. They are very effective and can instantly transform your smile; they are often likened to creating a ‘Hollywood’ smile.

Sometimes, veneers can be fitted on the NHS if they are not for purely cosmetic reasons. Your dentist can advise you of all the treatment options that are available if you have concerns about the appearance of your teeth and can tell you whether veneers will be covered under the NHS in your case. Our veneers are a cost-effective way of achieving a beautiful, youthful smile in little time.

How Long Do Veneers Take?

You will usually need two short appointments to have your veneers created and fitted. At your first appointment, your teeth may need to be slightly shaped to allow the veneers to fit seamlessly alongside your natural teeth; impressions will then be taken of the tooth or teeth that require veneers. On your second appointment, the veneers will be ready (perfectly matched in colour, size and shape) and will be bonded securely to your teeth – your new veneers will look like perfect versions of your natural teeth beneath.
